TAF Airline Waste Management Campaign

Flights create millions of tons of passenger waste every year and very little is recycled. Accordingly to IATA, the average passenger generates 1.4 kilograms of waste per flight.

TAF is interviewing all European airlines with the aim of reducing their single use plastic. We have encouraged the airports to implement water fountains and to END the selling of plastic bottles.

San Francisco airport banned plastic bottles with effect from August 20th 2019.

The first result of our campaign is published here and presented by our partners university Sciences Po.

Images of airline waste from various airlines.

One of the images shows Copenhagen airport which sells tons of plastic bottles, generating a huge profit. Despite that you can find alternatives to plastic bottles for sale in various shops in the airport, they make it quite difficult for people to refill the bottle as no water fountain has been installed. They do not encourage people to refill in the bathrooms either as the water is kept lukewarm.
