TAF Achievements in 2026

TAF - The Animal Fund was created March 3th, 2015. Aspiring to inform and educate about the ocean and its marine life's deterioration and to find solutions, the association has accomplished numerous achievements since then.

Year 2026

  • TAF started off the new year with a new ambassador: Meet TAF new Ambassador Szilárd Jansik, a Hungarian professional water polo player for Ferencváros, and the captain of the Hungarian national team (January);
  • TAF’s focus in 2026 is to regulate whale watching, and began our journey in Sri Lanka, where blue whales face a critical combination of threats — heavy shipping traffic, overfishing, and growing numbers of tourist boats operating too close to animals. (February);
  • TAF’s supporters Annette and Paulo Braschi were taking the initiative to plant coral and support reef restoration. Through coral gardening, even small broken fragments are given a new chance to grow and thrive. This inspiring effort is already bringing new life back to the reef—a true symbol of hope for our ocean (March);
  • We spent a wonderful day with students at ISN in France, where around 35 children explored the fascinating world of cetaceans and the importance of protecting our ocean. We are incredibly grateful for the students’ fundraising efforts for TAF and thankful to both the children and teachers for their enthusiasm and support (April);
  • An incredible day with two school classes and around 40 students eager to learn about whales and the wonders of the ocean. We were inspired by the children’s knowledge, curiosity, and enthusiasm to learn more (June);
  • During a street interview in Villefranche-sur-Mer, we asked people what they thought about plastic pollution in the ocean and how it should be addressed. Almost everyone agreed that the problem has worsened in recent years and expressed concern for the future of our ocean (June);
  • We attended the Monaco Ocean Protection Challenge, where startups showcased innovative solutions to protect and restore our ocean. From seagrass restoration and seaweed-based alternatives to plastic to technologies that reduce human impacts on marine life, the event highlighted how innovation and young talent are driving positive change for our ocean (June);
  • Meet Tom, our new Youth Ambassador! After completing two internships with TAF – The Animal Fund, Tom continues his journey with us to help protect our oceans and marine life. His passion for educating children highlights the power of awareness, proving that every action can make a difference for our planet (June);
  • Street interview; Overfishing. Fish populations are declining—but who is responsible? Our survey found that while most people recognize overfishing as a major issue, many believe the solution lies only with governments. In reality, protecting our oceans also depends on the everyday choices we make as consumers (June);
  • TAF joined the Tilvera Expedition in Iceland to support marine conservation, science, and whale protection. It was devastating to witness that Iceland still hunts whales, with 18 endangered fin whales killed so far this season. Together with our partners, we continue raising awareness and supporting efforts to end commercial whaling (July);
